Roger is equally at home both as a performer and educator and divides his time between the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the recording studio, teaching and his most recent exciting venture; SUPERBRASS which was recently dominated for the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society’s Education Award.

With the RPO and as a guest Principal with other London Orchestra’s he has traveled to most countries of the world, performing at the most prestigious festivals and concert halls with some of the world’s finest conductors, Ashkenazy, Previn, Temirikanov, Gergiev, Gatti, Haitink, Maazel, Rostropovich.

Along with planning, conducting and coaching all brass projects at Trinity College of Music, Roger has given masterclasses and recitals in Holland, France, Italy, Spain, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan and the USA. Roger has been invited and accepted invitations to coach brass and trombone sections in a wealth of situations ranging from the National Children’s Orchestra, the National Youth Brass Band of Wales, the National Youth Orchestra of Spain and the UK’s very own National Youth Orchestra. He has taken classes and examined at both the UK’s leading Specialist Music Schools, Chethams and Wells Cathedral School. He gave the European premiere of the Brubeck Bass Trombone Concerto with the RPO at the Royal Albert Hall and was invited to perform as a soloist at the International Trombone Festival 2003 in Helsinki.

In March 2001, Roger started BONELAB a trombone based, music education initiative. This was as a direct response to the declining number of school children learning to play the instrument here in the UK. BONELAB has put together numerous projects designed to focus on the trombone. Festival’s, Concert Hall’s, Conservatoire, Education Agencies and leading Orchestra’s have all adopted BONELAB concerts and events; highlighting the wealth of exciting younger performers alongside experienced teachers, educators and professional trombonists. BONELAB eventually evolved into SUPERBRASS which now sees Roger still leading similar projects to BONELAB but this time involving the whole wealth and breath of the brass instrument family.
