Jeroen Berwaerts’ (1975°) extraordinary musicality and virtuosity became apparent at an early age especially during his studies with Prof. Reinhold Friedrich. Following success at the "Jong Tenuto“ (Brussels, 1988), the „Jeunes Solistes“ (Brussels, 1989), the "Concours Maurice André“ (Albert/France, 1991) and the "Concours Européens du Jeune Trompettiste“ (Nancy/France, 1992), Jeroen was also an award-winner at the international competition "Prager Frühling“ and won the 2nd “ Grand Prix “ as well as the “Prix Feeling” (special award for interpretation) in the finale of the International “Concours Maurice André de la ville de Paris”. His musical “open mindedness” is reflected in his repertoire which touches upon every epoch. This flexibility combined with his outstanding technical and musical capability on the trumpet always make him a special attraction at international festivals such as the Kissinger Sommer, the Rheingau Musikfestival, the Festival Aix-en-Provence, the Sauerland Herbst, the chamber music festival "Spannungen" in Heimbach, the Elba International Music Festival….. In 2002, Jeroen made his debut as soloist at the world renowned Schleswig Holstein Music Festival and in 2005 premiered the piece Voyage VII for trumpet and ensemble by the composer Toshio Hosokawa at this festival. As a soloist, Jeroen Berwaerts has performed concerts with the “ Sinfonia Baltica “, the “ Flemish Radio and Television Orchestra”, the “Munich Symphony Orchestra”, the” Capella Istropolitana”, the “Jeunesses Musicales World Orchestra”, “ Minsk Orchestra” , “ Kymi Sinfonietta Finland”, “Berlin Symphony Orchestra” , “ Flanders Symphony Orchestra “, “ Radiophilharmonie Hannover “ and the” Norddeutschen Rundfunk Symphony Orchestra” and others….. He also studied jazz singing in Gent and performed as a singer and trumpet player with several groups and bands. Jeroen is also a member of “Canadian Brass “ the most well-known and most successful Brass quintet of the world. Jeroen released his first solo CD entitled “In the limelight”, concentrating on the repertoire for the trumpet from the Romantic era. A live CD (available from RCA) is also available of Jeroen performing Mozart’s Posthorn serenade, conducted by the world famous Gunther Wand. |
