Meet our star: Hakan Björkman
Håkan is holding the principal trombone position of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 2010 and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe since 1999.
In 1995 Håkan was given a solo diploma with the highest degree at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm where he studied for professor Sven-Erik Eriksson.1995 to 2010 Håkan Björkman was principal trombone of the Royal Opera Orchestra in Stockholm.
Today Håkan is teaching at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and Mälardalens University of Music. He has done numerous solo appearances with symphony orchestra, chamber orchestras, brass bands and piano in Sweden, Germany, Austria, USA, Spain, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Belgium and Holland.
Björkman was a member of the ”Trombone Unit 2000” lead by Christian Lindberg. In 2007 Håkan won a soloist prize in Stockholm and in 2008 he also won the International Christian Lindberg Solo Competition in Valencia. Håkan has also recorded two solo albums, one with brass band and harp (not simultaneously!) and one with piano.
In 2017 Björkman performed as a soloist with the Trombone ensemble ”Bone Society” as well as ”the New Trombone Collective” at the Slide Factory. In 2016 Mr Björkman was participating with the World Trombone Quartet at the International Trombone Festival in New York city together with Joseph Alessi, Jörgen van Rijen and Denson Paul Pollard.
Håkan has over the years made several master classes and recitals at international festivals.
Håkan Björkman is a Yamaha performing artist and is developing medium bore trombones with F attachment and customised shaped leadpipes. Apart from the three solo pieces commissioned to him previous years, Håkan Björkman will in 2019 premiere a new trombone concerto by Sven-David Sandström with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Harding.
